Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, age 39, passed away on June 7th, 2006, following a reported air strike. Born in Jordan, al-Zarqawi was the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq. He organized and carried out a campaign of bombings, kidnappings, and assassinations of Iraqi and foreign civilians and soldiers. He is known to have personally beheaded hostages in videos posted online. Al-Zarqawi was declared a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the United Nations Security Council and the United States government. He had a $25 million bounty on his head, offered by the United States. He will be remembered by many, for better or worse.
