On 10th of July 1992, Albert Pierrepoint passed away, aged 87. Albert's path in life was long and varied, and began with him joining the family business as a grocer, before signing up to work as a brewer. His career however is most remembered for his time as a hangman – a role he took on in 1932 and held for 25 years. During this time he was responsible for over 400 executions. Never comfortable in the role, he moved away to work as a salesman in a pub, and later as a civil servant. In his later life, he wrote his autobiography, and served on a number of charitable committees. In his life, Albert drew on a variety of experiences, but none so much discussed as his time as a hangman. He himself remained neutral throughout his career on this subject, never confirming his opinion of it. He leaves behind his wife, Anne, and their three children.
