It is with deep sorrow that the world must acknowledege the passing of Albert Schweitzer, the pioneering German theologian, missionary, physician, and philosopher, who died on September 4th, 1965 at the age of 90. Schweitzer is remembered for his groundbreaking work as a humanitarian and quest for global peace. He was born in Kaysersberg, Alsace-Lorraine in 1875 and was educated at universities in Strasbourg and Berlin. From 1913, Schweitzer devoted his life to medical missionary work in Gabon, Africa, where he opened the first European-style hospital. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952 for his humanitarian and spiritual writings, in which he focused on peace and the “Reverence for Life” principle. He later received numerous accolades, including the Order of Merit from the British Empire. Schweitzer was a humanitarian in the truest sense, having led a profoundly meaningful life devoted to the eradication of human suffering and the promotion of peace. His enduring legacy will continue to inspire those who strive to make the world a better place.

I wanted a perfect ending. Now I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity. Gilda Radner
