We are saddened to announce the passing of Jessica Tandy on September 11, 1994. She was 85 years old. Tandy was a celebrated British stage and film actress whose career spanned over 50 years. During those years, she played remarkable roles in several films, winning an Academy Award, four Golden Globe awards, a Tony Award, and an Emmy Award. Some of her best-known performances include Mrs. Thornton in The Dipsey Bridge and Mrs. Norman in Evelyn Prentice, as well as the role of Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire for which she won the 1949 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play. In 1950, Tandy made her film debut in Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller Stage Fright. Over the course of her lengthy career, she appeared in numerous stage productions and films including The Browning Version, The Light in the Forest, The Birds, The Gin Game, Driving Miss Daisy, and Cocoon. Tandy will be remembered for her accomplishments in acting, her many awards in the industry, as well as her dedication to the craft. She will be deeply missed.
