August Coppola, father, grandfather, and patriarch of the illustrious Coppola family, passed away on October 27th, 2009 at the age of 75. August was born on April 7, 1934 in the United States. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and afterwards earned an advanced degree from Hofstra University. He went on to become an esteemed literature professor at San Francisco State University, where he passed his knowledge and passions on to his students. He was an active and doting father to his children, including the renowned filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, composer Gio Coppola, and actress Talia Shire. August was surrounded by a loving family, and bequeathed to them a strong foundation and admiration for the creative arts. He will be remembered as a warm and generous spirit, and a dedicated and loving father. August Coppola will be greatly missed.
