On February 15, 2022, Bappi Lahiri, legendary music composer, passed away at the age of 69. A renowned artist in the music industry, Bappi Lahiri was responsible for many of Indian cinema's most beloved and iconic soundtracks, from his early outings in the late 1970s to his breakthrough successes throughout the 1980s. Born in 1952, Bappi Lahiri began his successful journey into the music industry at a young age. His debut as a music director was in the 1973 Bengali film, Bangla Natok. It was soon followed by hits such as Disco Dancer in 1982, and throughout his career his impressive compositional abilities and talent for artistry and experimentation set him aside from the rest. From then until today, Bappi Lahiri has composed music for over 300 films in an array of genres. He achieved numerous awards throughout his career, including the National Award for Best Music Direction for his famous work on the 1986 feature, Bemisal. Bappi Lahiri will be remembered and celebrated as one of the most influential musical artists of the Indian cinema. His legacy and influence will continue to live on.
