Bernardo Bertolucci (1941 - 2018) Bernardo Bertolucci, acclaimed Italian film director and screenwriter, died on November 26, 2018, at the age of 77. Considered to be one of the most influential directors of his time, Bertolucci's films addressed the political, social, artistic, and cultural issues of his time. He won numerous awards during his career, including eight David di Donatellos, four European Film Awards, and two Golden Bears. In addition to his international fame, many of his films resonated deeply with Italian audiences and came to be seen as classic works of Italian cinema. Born in Parma, Italy, in 1941, Bernardo was the son of poet Attilio Bertolucci and teacher Ninetta Glovani. He followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, both of whom were film directors. He directed over 20 feature films, beginning in 1962, and many of his works earned international acclaim. He won the Academy Award in 1987 for writing the screenplay for the critically acclaimed drama 'The Last Emperor.' Bertolucci is survived by a son and a daughter.
