John von Neumann (December 28, 1903 – February 8, 1957) was a polymath and a leading figure in mathematics, computer science, physics, and the development of atomic energy. He made profound and lasting contributions to numerous fields of science including set theory, following George Cantor’s work, game theory, economics, computer architecture, and quantum mechanics. He was a major contributor to the Manhattan Project and is renowned for his work in devising the first digital computer at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. He held a lifelong interest and passion in mathematics, and published more than 150 papers and fifteen books.
