Bobby Womack, renowned musician and multi Grammy Award nominee, died on June 27, 2014 at the age of 70. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 4, 1944 to Naomi and Friendly Womack, we was the fifth of six sons. At a young age, Bobby and his brothers developed a passion for music and in 1958, at the age of 14, he signed with the legendary Sam Cooke and went on to record his first solo single "Lookin' for a Love" at the age of 16. Throughout the latter half of the 20th century, Womack's music rose among soul music's greatest, with many standard hits including "It's All Over Now," "Woman's Gotta Have It," "Across 110th Street," "If You Think You're Lonely Now," and his cover of Neil Young’s "Harvest Moon". Though he was never officially signed with Berry Gordy's Motown Records, he remained personally and closely associated with the iconic Motown records. He's also remembered as an influential leader in the development of Southern rock. Bobby was inducted into the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame in 2009. That same year finest album, The Bravest Man in the Universe, was released reviving renewed critical praise and acclaim. Peacefully and gracefully, Womack leaves behind a legacy of 50 years of music recorded on various labels and across multiple genres. His music touched countless hearts and will continue to spread light and joy for years to come. He is survived by his wife and several children.
