Legendary racecar driver and designer Bruce McLaren tragically passed away on June 2, 1970 at the age of 32. Born on August 30, 1937 in Auckland, New Zealand, McLaren had a passion for racing from a young age and was fast recognized for his inherent mechanical abilities. After a successful career in open-wheeled racing, he decided to challenge himself by entering the 1960 Formula One season with the Cooper Car Company. By 1962, McLaren had teamed up with fellow New Zealander, Chris Amon, setting the stage for motorsport history. The duo made significant accomplishments both in and out of the racing circuit. Their successes included three Grand Prix victories and a successful business establishment, the McLaren Cars Limited. He then co-founded the Bruce McLaren Motor Racing Team, one of the world’s most successful racing teams with more than 180 victories in the subsequent 40 years of its existence. In 1970, McLaren was killed in a testing accident at Goodwood. His legacy as one of the greatest racing talents of all time, lives on in the McLaren name which continues to achieve prestigious wins in the world of motorsport. He will always be remembered for his creativity, innovation, and determination to be the best.
