The world mourns the sudden passing of Clive Staples Lewis, one of the great contributors to literature, Christian theology, and the world of academia. He passed away on November 22, 1963, at the age of 64. C.S. Lewis was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on November 29, 1898. He was educated at boarding schools in England before enrolling in University College, Oxford in 1916. He graduated in 1919, shortly after having served in the First World War as an Officers' Training Corps cadet. Coming from a deeply religious family, Lewis was a deeply religious man himself; however, he began to doubt and question the Christian faith during his early adulthood. He eventually rediscovered his faith in 1931, and became a Christian. As a professor of literature at both Oxford and Cambridge, Lewis published a series of influential works in both Christian and literary circles. His most famous work, The Chronicles of Narnia, was published from 1949-1954. His posthumously-published work, A Grief Observed, chronicles his experience with grief following the death of his wife. Lewis and his wife had been married for less than four years when she died. However, C.S. Lewis will be remembered most for his sheer genius as an author, thinker, and theologian. Lewis’s many books, articles, and other works have helped generations of students think more deeply about life, faith, and virtue. He will undeniably be missed by countless people across the globe.
