Caroline Aherne (née Yarnell), a pioneering and landmark British comedian and writer, passed away on July 2nd, 2016, aged 52, following a battle with cancer. Born in Reddish, Stockport, Manchester, England, in 1964, Caroline obtained a B.A. from the University of Salford, and began her career working at Granada Studios in Manchester. Best known for creating the character of Mrs. Merton, a woman conducting interviews with guests on a British afternoon talk show, Caroline won numerous awards, including the British Academy Television Awards, the British Comedy Award and many more for her commitment to comedic excellence. In addition to her television success, she also wrote for and starred in the English comedy series, The Royle Family, appearing in all three of its seasons. Her witty dialogue and performances earned multiple awards, and the program was relatably and dearly appreciated by its BritFans. Though Caroline's life accomplishments and moments of laughter was short lived, she lived her life to the fullest one can imagine, dedicating her creativity and strong character towards making laughter and smiles, primarily in her home country of England. Caroline will remembered and loved by friends and family, as well as by fans of comedy all over the world.
