Chi Cheng, 42, passed away on April 13, 2013. He was born in Taipei, Taiwan, and moved to the United States at a young age to attend school. He quickly became an active participant in the music scene during the 1980s and 90s and was best known as a founding member of the Californian rock band Deftones. Cheng was an accomplished musician and bassist, contributing a prominent and defining element to Deftones’ sound. He grew to become a much admired figure within the music world both for his talented and creative bass-work, as well as the kind and humble demeanor with which he worked. He was the author of a memoir, This Is the Life: One Man's Journey, which told of his spirituality and faith before and after the tragic car crash which left him hospitalized in a coma for over 3 years. Cheng is survived by his brother, Ming, and his sister, Li-Cheng. He will be greatly missed by the music world and all of those who knew him.
Those men who, in war, seek to preserve their lives at any rate commonly die with shame and ignominy, while those who look upon death as common to all, and unavoidable, and are only solicitous to die with honour, oftener arrive at old age and, while they live, live happier. Xenophon
