It is with deep sadness and affection that we remember the life of Barbara Windsor, who passed away on Thursday 10 December 2020 at the age of 83. A beloved British actress, Barbara was widely recognised for her classic Good Old British Comedy performance in the ‘Carry On’ films in the 1960s. She also gained fame for her role in the long-running British soap opera EastEnders as Peggy Mitchell. Born in Shoreditch, London on 6 August 1937 to John Deeks and Rose Collins, Barbara was always a fan of performing, touring with the Windmill Theatre as a child and eventually signing as a contract with the Rank Organisation when she was 19. Her career quickly began to skyrocket, appearing in a variety of theatre, film, and television projects. Barbara received countless awards for her performance, including the British Academy Television Award and Future Film Festival Award, and also became a Member of the Order of the British Empire for her immense contribution to the acting industry from 2000. She will be deeply and lovingly missed and mourned by family and friends for her eternal energy, vivaciousness, and joie de vivre.
