It is with deep sadness that the family of Mary Marion “Cokie” Roberts announces her passing on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at the age of 75. Cokie is survived by her husband Steve, her children Lee, Rebecca and Jamie, her six grandchildren, and her siblings Rebecca, Thomas and Jane. Born in New Orleans to Congressional leaders Hale Boggs and Lindy Boggs, Cokie was Congresswoman Lindy Boggs’s only daughter. Cokie earned a degree in political science from Wellesley University and went on to have an illustrious career as a journalist for ABC and National Public Radio. As a top political analyst, Cokie provided American viewers a firsthand look at the inner workings of the government. She won many awards over her career, most recently an Emmy Award for Outstanding Live Coverage of a Current News Story in 1998. In her spare time, Cokie was an active community member and ardent supporter of women’s empowerment. She established a scholarship foundation for young women at Wellesley, the school where she obtained her degree. Above all, Cokie was an inspirational figure and loving mother and wife. She will be dearly remembered and her memory will not be forgotten.
