On June 8, 1968, Dan Duryea passed away at the age of 61. He was born in White Plains, New York on January 23, 1907. He attended Cornell University, where he studied civil engineering and, later, drama. He made his Broadway debut in 1929, eventually appearing in over fifty productions. In 1933 he made the move to Los Angeles and began a career in radio and film. Over the course of his career, Dan portrayed characters with a range both villainous and heroic. He starred in a series of films in the 1940s and ‘50s, such as The Silver Chalice (1954), The Crimson Pirate (1952), and Winchester ‘73 (1950). He earned an Academy Award nomination for his performance in The Little Foxes (1941), and won a Golden Globe for his character in The Great Merlini (1948). In television he is best known for his role on “The grand Duke" in 1965. Dan Duryea has left behind an extensive legacy in the entertainment industry, in which he earned many accolades and awards for his work. He will be dearly missed.
