Dane Witherspoon, beloved actor, husband, and father, died on March 29, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. He was 56 years old. Born on November 6, 1958 in Skaneateles, New York, Dane was the son of Joyce and Robert Witherspoon. He graduated from Skaneateles High School in 1976 and received a full scholarship to attend SUNY Oswego, studying theater. He later moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. He appeared in several hit television shows and movies, including: Knots Landing, The Outsiders, The Greatest American Hero and Risky Business. He also appeared in several episodes of the cult favorite television series, Roswell. On August 14, 1982, Dane married Meridith Lee Minsky, with whom he had two children; daughter Bridget, and son Tyler. Dane was a lover of nature who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed walking his golden retriever, Chester. A loving husband and father, Dane is survived by his wife Meridith and his two children Bridget and Tyler. He was preceded in death by his parents. He will be remembered for his kind, gentle spirit and the light he brought to the lives of those around him. He is deeply missed by his family and friends.
