Daniel Pearl, notable journalist and investigative reporter, died on February 1st 2002 at the age of 38. He was a graduate of Stanford University and the London School of Economics. He is best known for his investigative reports from the Middle East and South Asia, in addition to his brief tenure as the South Asia Bureau Chief for the Wall Street Journal. Other notable works included his coverage of the conflict between India and Pakistan in 1998, and his investigative reports on smuggling and religious extremism. His death came from a kidnapping that took place during a reporting trip to Karachi, Pakistan. He was remembered for courage and excellence in journalism, and despite the tragedy of his death, his spirit will remain in the journalism legacy for years to come.
