Dee Dee Warwick, beloved Singer and Songwriter, passed away on October 18th, 2008 at the age of 63. Dee Dee was born in Newark, New Jersey on September 25th, 1945 to legendary soul singers, Cissy Houston and Maithe Marshall. From an early age, Dee Dee was surrounded by music and was a prominent member of the Gospel Hummingbirds. Throughout her illustrious career, Dee Dee released five solo albums and was featured as a backup vocalist on a long list of recordings including Aretha Franklin’s ‘Respect' and Dusty Springfield songs. She was also nominated for the Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for her single ‘I'm Gonna Make You Love Me’, and in 2006, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Dee Dee will be remembered for her powerful voice, contagious spirit and commitment to the music industry. She is survived by her brother, the late Whitney Houston, and her sister, gospel singer Cissy Houston, and a large extended family. Dee Dee’s memory will be cherished by all she inspired throughout her life and career.
