Dermot Morgan, 45, passed away on February 28, 1998. He was an Irish actor, comedian, satirist, broadcaster and singer best known for his work on Ireland’s RTÉ Radio and Television as host and writer of the multi-award winning political satire show, Scrap Saturday, and for his role as Fr. Ted Crilly in the sitcom Father Ted. He was born in Dublin, Ireland, on March 31, 1952. During his life, he was a successful stand-up comedian, and was the first Dublin Comic of the Year in 1978. During his career in broadcasting, he wrote and presented shows for BBC Radio, Channel 4 and RTÉ. His stage credits included productions of Sam Shepard's True West and Alan Bennett's Talking Heads. His film and television credits include The Snapper, Waking Ned Devine and Braveheart. Morgan's positivity and comedic presence will be remembered and missed.
