Desmond Tutu, a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and beloved leader of the South African human rights movement, died peacefully on December 26, 2021, at the age of 90. Desmond Tutu grew up in apartheid-era South Africa to serve his country and eventually become the archbishop of the Anglican Church of Johannesburg. He was also the first black South African to hold the same post. In 1984, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his advocacy against racism, oppression, and deportation of non-native South Africans. He also held various government appointments in post-apartheid South Africa. Throughout his lifetime, Desmond Tutu worked to eliminate racism and poverty, support political and social reforms, and promote peace. He was known as the “architect of South African democracy” and a beloved symbol of freedom and justice. He was also a spiritual mentor to many South Africans, inspiring them to fight for equality. Desmond Tutu’s legacy will live on long after his death, and his influence will be remembered for generations to come. Though no longer here in body, his spirit lives on. May he rest in peace.

Death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be because death is very likely the single best invention of life. It is life’s change agent, it clears out the old to make way for the new. Steve Jobs
