Diana Vreeland, renowned fashion icon, passed away surrounded by family on August 22, 1989. She was 83. During her career, Diana shone as an editor of Harper’s Bazaar magazine in the 1950s and as Editor-in-Chief of Vogue magazine from 1963-1971. Her independent fashion editorials, trendsetting eye, and originality leave a legacy as one of the preeminent figures in fashion history. Diana’s impact on fashion will not be forgotten. She is remembered for conceiving of and instituting the ‘best-dressed’ lists at Vogue, being among the first to recognize and publish the works of young fashion photography talent, introducing colorful, lengthy illustrated fashion stories, and introducing the idea of fashion as lifestyle, not merely adornment. Known for her wit and impeccable style, Diana remains an iconic trendsetter and will be deeply missed by her friends and family.
