Dick Cheney, a prominent American politician and businessman, passed away on November 3rd, 2025 at the age of 84. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1941, Cheney rose to national prominence as the vice president of the United States under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009. Cheney began his political career as an intern for Congressman Bill Steiger in 1969 and subsequently served as White House Chief of Staff under President Gerald Ford. He then represented Wyoming in the House of Representatives from 1979 to 1989, serving as House Minority Whip from 1989 to 1995. In 1988, Cheney was selected by President George H.W. Bush to be his Secretary of Defense, a position he held until 1993. During his tenure, he oversaw Operation Desert Storm, a successful military operation in the Persian Gulf War. After a brief hiatus from politics, Cheney returned to public service in 2000 as the running mate of George W. Bush in the presidential election. As vice president, Cheney prioritized national security and played an instrumental role in the United States' response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Cheney's political career was not without controversy, as he drew criticism for his role in advocating for the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and his link to the Halliburton Corporation, where he served as CEO from 1995 to 2000. After leaving office, Cheney remained active in political and business circles, serving on the board of several companies and advocating for conservative policies. Throughout his decades-long career, Cheney was known for his sharp intellect, strategic thinking, and unwavering commitment to his beliefs. He leaves behind a legacy of service to his country and a lasting impact on American politics. Cheney is survived by his wife, Lynne Cheney, and their two daughters, Elizabeth and Mary Cheney. He will be remembered by many as a dedicated public servant and a influential figure in American politics.
