Douglas Adams, author, scientist, and humorist, passed away on 11 May 2001, aged 49. Born in Cambridge, England, on 11 March 1952, he is best remembered for his immense contribution to comedy, science, and literature. Adams was the creator of the popular and beloved science fiction series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which was originally a radio-play, and later adapted into a book, television series, stage show, computer game, comic book, and film. Adams was an outstanding and innovative individual, being the author of other tales such as Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency and The Meaning of Liff, creator of the popular computer game Starship Titanic and working as a scriptwriter for Doctor Who. In addition to his numerous works, Adams was also a leading spokesperson on environmental and conservation issues, and continued to contribute in a wide-ranging manner until the time of his passing. His tremendous influence will leave a lasting impact on the world - today, and for many days to come.
