Dustin Diamond, best known for his portrayal of Samuel “Screech” Powers on the 1990s teen sitcom Saved by the Bell, died on 2021-02-01 at the age of 44. Born in 1977, Diamond was raised in San Jose, California. He began his acting career in 1988, making an uncredited appearance in the ABC television movie Ring of the Musketeers. His most iconic role came three years later with Saved by the Bell. Diamond was part of the central cast throughout the show’s run, and was part of the cast for several Saved by the Bell spin-offs, such as the made-for-television movie Hawaiian Style. Aside from acting, Diamond was a standup comedian and was featured in the 2005 reality television show Celebrity Fit Club. He made notable appearances in films such as Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star (2003) and American pie Presents: The Book of Love (2009). Diamond’s later years included some legal troubles, but he was still remembered for his contribution to the pop culture legacy of the 1990s. He is survived by his longtime girlfriend Tash Jules.
