Ed Ames, born Edward Whitman Ames on July 9th, 1928 in Malden, Massachusetts, passed away on May 21st, 2023, at 95 years old. Ed was a legendary American singer, actor, and entertainer with a career spanning over seven decades. Ed attended and graduated from Malden High School and Syracuse University. After graduating, he joined the US Marine Corps Reserve, serving until his final release in 1955. He was a talented musician and sang as a tenor and baritone in The Ames Brothers, a popular vocal quartet formed with Ed's siblings, Gene, Joe, and Vic. After leaving The Ames Brothers in news, Ed focused on his acting career, appearing in popular films such as "Theburn Hedron Story" and "The Butch Cassidy Story". He also became a regular on TV sitcoms such as "My Three Sons", "Daniel Boone", and "Hogan's Heroes". In the 1960s and 70s, Ed marked his name in the Entertainment industry as a renowned stage entertainer, with TV specials and late night appearances which made him a household name across the country. He released his first top 10 hit, "The Woodpecker Song", in 1967. Ed was a devoted husband to his wife, Nancy and loving father to their six children. He is survived by his wife and five sons, as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered by many for his legacy in the Entertainment industry and his affinity for the American Flag, of which he is seen on many recordings wearing on his lapel.
