Elijah Eugene Cummings, age 68, passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 17, 2019. Born to parents Ruth and Robert Cummings on January 18, 1951 in Baltimore, Maryland, Cummings developed a passion for civil rights, justice, and uplifting youth at an early age. He earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law, and then went on to serve for 14 years in the Maryland House of Delegates, 14 years in the U.S. House of Representatives, and as chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, among other offices. He is remembered as being a strong supporter of the Affordable Care Act and for his decades of efforts to protect and enhance the condition of the neighborhoods in Maryland's 7th district. He was a passionate champion of democracy and always pointed out things he thought could be improved upon. Cummings' life serves as a testament to courage, resilience, and dedication to serve the people of his district and the nation. He will truly be missed.
