Raymond Burr, an acclaimed actor best known for his role as Perry Mason in the television series and films of the same name, passed away peacefully on September 12, 1993 at the age of 76. Born in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada, Burr trained in the theater in Seattle before moving to New York, where he originated the role of Colonel Guy in the Broadway production of “Mister Roberts”, which earned him a Tony Award nomination. His career blossomed in Hollywood with roles in iconic films such as Alfred Hitchcock’s "Rear Window," with James Stewart, and director Billy Wilder's "Witness for the Prosecution." Burr's career included five decades in film and television, dozens of films and television shows, and countless more guest appearances in addition to his iconic leading roles. Burr is remembered not only for his acting career but also for his philanthropic work, raising an estimated $10 million for the research and treatment of cancer. Until the end of his life, Burr remained active in the charitable forums he championed. He is survived by his partner Bob Benevides and will be fondly remembered by his fans.
