Born in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada, Burr trained in the theater in Seattle before moving to New York, where he originated the role of Colonel Guy in the Broadway production of “Mister Roberts”, which earned him a Tony Award nomination. His career blossomed in Hollywood with roles in iconic films such as Alfred Hitchcock’s "Rear Window," with James Stewart, and director Billy Wilder's "Witness for the Prosecution." Burr's career included five decades in film and television, dozens of films and television shows, and countless more guest appearances in addition to his iconic leading roles. Burr is remembered not only for his acting career but also for his philanthropic work, raising an estimated $10 million for the research and treatment of cancer.
