Faisal I (1883-1933) died at the age of 50 on September 8, 1933. He was a successful monarch who was acknowledged by current and former world leaders alike. His impact on Middle Eastern politics was tremendous, as he was largely responsible for establishing the Hashemite dynasty in Iraq during the 1920s. During his reign, the country experienced growth and prosperity as he worked diligently to introduce progressive legislation, including drastic educational reform. Faisal I gained recognition from the World War I allies, and attended the Paris Peace Conference of 1919. During that time, he also met with world leaders and was instrumental in establishing the Arab Office of the Middle East, which worked to protect Arab interests throughout the region. Faisal I was highly regarded by independent states and dynasties as an advocate of modern values and a supporter of civil rights. He is deeply mourned by his family, friends, and country.
