On August 18, 1936, Federico García Lorca passed away from a tragic event at the age of 38. Originally from Granada, Spain, Federico was an acclaimed poet, playwright, and theater director. A true Renaissance man, Federico's works significantly influenced 20th-century Spanish literature. He wrote plays including Blood Wedding, Yerma, and The House of Bernarda Alba, novels such as The Romance of Montevirgen, and numerous and beloved works of poetry. His works also included poetry collections such as Gypsy Ballads,Deep Song, and Poem of the Deep Song. Federico was also an accomplished pianist, composer, and playwright. His works were produced throughout Spain, Latin America, and Europe. He was a recipient of numerous awards, including the Spanish National Prize for Literature and the Queen Victoria Eugenia Prize for the Theatre. Federico was cherished and remembered for his pioneering spirit and limitless creativity. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
