Today we remember Tom Horn, who passed away on November 20th, 1903 at the age of 41. Tom Horn was born in Missouri in 1862 and was a scout, range detective, soldier, and Pinkerton detective throughout his adult life. He served as a scout for General George Crook during the Apache campaigns from 1883–86 and later was employed by cattle companies to investigate rustling throughout the late 1880s and early 1890s in Wyoming. Tom Horn was found guilty of the killing of William Heady and was executed in Wyoming in 1903. During his trial Horn was described as β€œan excellent type of the American frontiersman and the symbol of his passing away.” Tom Horn was remembered for the service he rendered during his life and was never forgotten, even in his untimely death.

If life must not be taken too seriously, then so neither must death. Samuel Butler
