George M. Cohan, the renowned American playwright, songwriter, actor and producer, passed away on November 5th, 1942, at the age of 64. Cohan is known for his theatrical works, including his most popular play, "Forty-Five Minutes from Broadway," and his famous songs "Over There" and "Grand Old Flag." His impressive career spanned from vaudeville to film and Broadway, and he is credited with writing nearly 300 popular songs. Cohan was born on July 3rd, 1878, in Providence, Rhode Island. He was an integral part of the early vaudeville scene in New York, and his greatest works were produced within a few years of him stepping onto Broadway. He is also the first recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor for his contributions to patriotic music. He is survived by his wife, Agnes, and their two children, Mary and George. His passing leaves a void in the entertainment industry, and his legacy will live on.
