Gil Hill, age 84, passed away on February 29th, 2016 at his home in Detroit, Michigan. Hill was born on November 5th, 1931 in Birmingham, Alabama to George and Lula Hill. He attended Tennessee State University and played football before entering the military. Hill served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. After his military service, Hill became a successful businessman in Detroit. His fame and recognition, however, came from his involvement in law enforcement. He joined the Detroit Police Department in 1957 and rose through the ranks to become a homicide detective. Hill gained national attention for his work on high-profile cases, including the Rivertown Warehouse murders and the Oakland Mall sniper case. In 1981, Hill retired from the police department and turned his focus to politics. He was elected to the Detroit City Council, where he served for many years and became its president. Hill also had a brief acting career, appearing in several films, including the classic "Beverly Hills Cop" as Inspector Todd and its sequels. Hill was known for his tough and no-nonsense approach, earning him the nickname "Bulldog." He was admired by his colleagues and community for his dedication to serving others and speaking out against crime and corruption. Hill is survived by his wife, Delores Hill, and their five children, as well as his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, his community, and his country. A private family burial will take place, and there will be no public service per Hill's request. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the National Association of Chiefs of Police Memorial Fund in Hill's honor.
