Harpo Marx, beloved American comedian, entertainer, and filmmaker passed away on September 28, 1974, at the age of 85. Harpo was born in New York City in 1888. He was an entertainer from an early age, and the Marx Brothers were a popular vaudeville act in the early 20th century. Harpo specialized in using physical comedy, mime, and harp playing, becoming renowned for his bewigged harp playing and horn honking. Harpo made many films with the Marx Brothers, including Duck Soup (1933), Horse Feathers (1932), and A Night at the Opera (1935). He also starred in a few solo efforts, including International House (1933) and A Star is Born (1937). He was also an accomplished author, writing the books Harpo Speaks! (1961), which was based on his life, and Harpo Marx and the Family Letters (1967). Harpo was married three times and had four children. He will be fondly remembered by friends, family, and admirers around the world.
