Hedda Hopper, the veteran film star and gossip columnist, died on February 1, 1966, at the age of 75. Hopper was a major influence in Hollywood, visualizing trends and changing public opinions. Hopper first gained recognition as an actress appearing in 60's films, such as Reunion in Vienna, The Iron Petticoat, and Invaders from Mars. After transitioning to a glamour columnist, she was best known for her gossip column, "The Hedda Hopper Show Business" that appeared in many publications including the LA Times. Hopper was an influential part of Hollywood for several decades. Through her column, she had a unique impact on the film industry and the stars of the era. She was known for her strong political views and statements which frequently appeared in her column. Hopper's influence greatly transcended the time she lived in.
