It is with sadness that we announce the death of Helmut Kohl, former Chancellor of Germany. He passed away on June 16th, 2017 at the age of 87. Helmut Kohl was born on April 3, 1930, in Ludwigshafen, Germany. In 1983, he was appointed Chancellor of Germany, and he served for a total of 16 years and six months before stepping down in 1998. He was an important figure in reunifying Germany after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and his policies laid the groundwork for the introduction of the Euro in 2002. Throughout his political career, Helmut Kohl received numerous honors and awards for his contributions, including the 1990 Wilton Park Award from the United Kingdom, and the Charlemagne Prize which he received in 1988. He was described by many as the “Father of the German Unity” and will be fondly remembered for his role in reunifying the nation. Helmut Kohl is survived by his second wife Maike and three children from his first marriage, Walter, Peter and Walter. He will be deeply missed.
