Grant Wood, a prominent American painter, passed away on February 13th, 1942 in Iowa City, Iowa at the age of 51. Wood was born in Anamosa, Iowa in 1891 and is best known for his American Regionalism style of painting, particularly his iconic painting “American Gothic”. In addition to painting, Wood was an art teacher as well as an avid entrepreneur, starting his own painting school and art supply store. Throughout his artistic career, Wood received numerous awards and honors for his works, reflected in his inclusion in the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Wood’s distinctive paintings, murals, and lithographs continue to be displayed in museums across the world and serve as a reminder of his artistic legacy.
