Today, the world bows its collective head in mourning of Grandmaster Ip Man of the Wing Chun martial arts school. Grandmaster Ip Man passed away peacefully at age 79 on December 2, 1972, in his home in Foshan, China. Grandmaster Ip Man was an esteemed martial artist, teaching the Wing Chun style of kung fu to generations of students. He was born in 1893 and moved to Hong Kong in 1949, where he opened his first school, teaching and propagating Wing Chun kung fu teachings and philosophy. Grandmaster Ip Man was well-respected for his martial arts skill, and was particularly known for his prominence in the Bruce Lee and Wong Shun Leung lineages, both Rat or Sifu to Bruce Lee. Grandmaster Ip Man will always be remembered as a wise man and great teacher whose legacy lives on in his contributions to the martial arts. He will be deeply missed by all who have been touched by his teachings.
