Florence Foster Jenkins (1868 – 1944), an New York-born philanthropist, singer, and entertainment icon, passed away on November 26, 1944 in New York City, aged 76. Florence Foster Jenkins was born in Pennsylvania in 1868 and she relocated to New York City in 1907. She was known as a passionate philanthropist and was incredibly determined in her dedicated service to the New York music scene, particularly for its young talents. She often funded recitals and performances, as well as scholarships to enable less privileged children to attend music schools.
