Milton Friedman, one of the most influential economists of the 20th century, passed away on November 16th, 2006 at the age of 94. Friedman was born in Brooklyn on July 31, 1912. He earned both his undergraduate and doctorate degree in economics from the University of Chicago. He worked at the National Bureau of Economic Research from 1945 to 1951 before joining the University of Chicago's faculty in 1948. Friedman received the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 1976. He was widely renowned for his controversial and influential free-market theories and is credited with helping to shape the economic policies of Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher. Friedman wrote several books on economics, was advisors to U.S. presidents, and contributed many published works. He was also a part of the "Chicago school" of economics. Friedman was a beloved husband, father, teacher, economic theorist, and mentor. He is survived by his wife and two children.
