Jeanne Cooper, beloved actor and widely recognized for her role as Katherine Chancellor in "The Young and the Restless," a role she played for thirty-nine years, passed away on May 8th, 2013 at the age of 84. Jeanne Cooper was born in Taft, California as Wilma Jeanne Cooper on October 25, 1928. She began her acting career small, playing bit parts in movies, but eventually found success in television. In 1973, she joined the cast of "The Young and the Restless," and was the longest running character on the series. She was nominated for five Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Katherine Chancellor in "The Young and the Restless," and in 2004, was the first actor to receive a lifetime achievement award for the same show. Throughout her career, Jeanne Cooper shared her innovative acting skills and enthusiasm with numerous fans. She will be remembered for her performances as well as her grace, candor and strength.
