Jerry Jeff Walker, the influential country singer-songwriter, died peacefully at the age of 78 on October 23, 2020. Born Ronnie Walker in Oneida, New York in 1942, Jerry Jeff was a pioneer of the "Outlaw Country" movement, popularizing a raucous, independent approach to creating music that influenced countless artists. He wrote dozens of unforgettable songs, including "Mr. Bojangles", "London Homesick Blues", "Gettin' By", and "Up Against The Wall, Red Neck Mother". Away from the stage, Jerry Jeff was a philanthropist and a conservationist, advocating for wildlife protection in Texas. He also released more than 25 albums, including his most recent, "It's About Time", in 2019. Jerry Jeff is survived by his wife of over four decades, Susan Walker, and their children Jessie Jane, Graham, and Rosa Lee. His unparalleled impact on the music industry will remain alive through his fans, family and friends who remember him fondly and thank him for his lasting contributions to music.
