On Thursday May 22, 2020, Jerry Sloan passed away at 78 years of age. An NBA Hall of fame inductee, Jerry Sloan will be remembered for his incredible career as a player, coach, and executive. Born in Illinois, Jerry played college basketball for the University of Evansville. He then spent 11 seasons playing professional basketball with the Bulls, and was named NBA All-Star twice in 1966 and 1967. Post-player career, Jerry became head coach for the Chicago Bulls and after that an assistant coach for the Utah Jazz. In 1988,he became the Jazz's head coach, leading them to two NBA Finals appearances and the franchise's only two division titles. He was the first coach in NBA history to win 1,000 games with one team. During his time as a coach, he guided the likes of Karl Malone, John Stockton and Jerry Sloan.In 2009, he became the fourth coach in NBA History to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and in 2016, he was inducted into the Utah Jazz Hall of Fame. In his 26 years as a coach, his teams qualified for the playoffs 18 times, and he won 1,127 total games (1,221 including the playoffs). Jerry was highly respected in the NBA community and he will be remembered for his dedication to the game.
