It is with deep sorrow that the family of Jerry Van Dyke announces his passing on January 5, 2018, at the age of 86. Jerry was born on July 27, 1931, in Danville, Illinois. He graduated from Danville High School in 1949. He was a four-year letterwinner on the berths of the school's football team. Jerry was an accomplished actor and comedian who entertained millions. He made numerous appearances on television and had roles in many films, including Innerspace (1987) and Necessary Roughness (1991). He is perhaps best known for his roles as television's comedic Handy Andy, on CBS' The Ed Sullivan Show (1956-1959), and for his role as Luther Van Dam on the ABC sitcom Coach (1989-1997). He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his two children, Kelly Jo and Carey Ray; his sister, Tacy Lyne; and his three grandchildren. His legacy will live on in all of those who had the honor of sharing the stage with him, watching his performances, and being touched by his laughter, endless energy, gentleness, and strength.
