It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of John Wesley Hardin, who departed this life on August 19th, 1895 at the age of 42. John was born on May 26th 1853 in Bonham, Texas, and grew up during the early days of The Republic of Texas. At a young age, John developed a reputation for being a fearlessness, quick-tempered and dangerous man, and was known for engaging in numerous fights and altercations with both law enforcement and regular citizens. John was an infamous gunfighter, and was even credited as having shot at least 19 men during his lifetime, with some accounts saying the number was far higher. Despite being implicated in various crimes, John was only convicted of one murder, and was sentenced to 25 years in prison, of which he served 15 before securing a pardon for his release. John eventually made his way to El Paso, where in 1895, he tragically met his end in a tussle open fire with Constable John Selman. He was a devoted husband and father to his family. He will be greatly missed.
