Jorge Luis Borges, influential Argentine author and poet, died on June 14, 1986 at the age of 86. Born in Buenos Aires, in 1899, Borges’s works explored themes of reality, dreams and imagination, and he was widely respected as a master of surrealist fiction and short stories. His works were translated into numerous languages, and he was often hailed as one of the most important literary figures of the 20th century. Borges contributed to a variety of different genres, including philosophy, essay writing, poetry, and fiction. He wrote several collections of short stories, including Ficciones and The Aleph, as well as numerous essays and poems. He also wrote many books on Argentine culture and history. Borges was awarded numerous literary honors, including the prestigious International Publishers’ Prize in 1961 and the Cervantes Prize in 1979. Though he is no longer with us, Borges’s legacy is cemented in the hearts and minds of readers everywhere. His works continue to inspire, and he will be remembered as one of the greatest literary figures of the last century.
