Juan Gabriel, legendary Mexican singer, songwriter, and actor, has died at the age of 66 on August 28th, 2016. Born Alberto Aguilera Valadez in Michoacan, Mexico, Juan Gabriel won worldwide admiration and recognition as one of Latin America's greatest musical artists, becoming known to millions of fans as "El Divo de Juarez" and "El Rey de la Musica Romantica." During his long career, he wrote and performed nearly 1,000 songs, and sold more than 100 million copies of his records. In 2003, his outstanding musical achievements earned Juan Gabriel the Latin Recording Academy's Person of the Year award, one of the highest honors in Latin music. Juan Gabriel had immense success both at home and abroad. In addition to releasing numerous studio albums and live recordings, he performed in a dizzying number of sold-out concerts throughout the United States, Latin America, and Europe. He also collaborated with numerous other well-known artists and wrote music for films, television, and theater. He is survived by four daughters. His remarkable life and career will be remembered and celebrated for many years to come.
