June Carter Cash, beloved American singer, songwriter and actress, passed away peacefully on May 15th, 2003 in Nashville, TN at the age of 73. June was born in Maces Spring, VA to musician parents, Mother Maybelle and Ezra Carter, and made her onstage debut in 1939 at the age of 10. As a member of The Carter Sisters, June found success in the music industry, launching a career that spanned six decades. In addition to her music, June was a successful actress, appearing in the films Five Minutes to Live, The Apostle and Walk the Line, with the latter earning her an Academy Award nomination. An influential songwriter, June wrote songs for Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash, particularly the song “Ring of Fire”, which was sung by Cash and inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. Throughout her life and career, June was passionate about music, songwriting, and performing for audiences. June will be remembered for her contribution to music, her acting work, and her genuine love for people. She is survived by her husband Johnny Cash, her five children, and several extended family members.
