Larry King, (November 19, 1933 - January 23, 2021), a stalwart of American broadcasting, died in Los Angeles at the age of 87. King was born in Brooklyn, New York, and began his broadcasting career in Miami, Florida, in 1957. For more than five decades, he hosted an array of radio shows and television programs that made him one of the most recognizable figures in the media industry. King first gained nationwide fame in the mid to late 1980s with his popular “Larry King Live” program on Cable News Network (CNN). The show attracted both stars and unknowns, as well as worldwide figures and everyday Americans, to its interview roster. King also yielded longevity in the industry by hosting a syndicated talk show in the 2000s on the Mutual Radio Network. As well, he had his own syndicated column in USA Today. In addition to his media career, King wrote several books, including his autobiography “My Remarkable Journey”, a novel, and a children’s book. In his later years, King was active in a variety of philanthropic causes. He was honored several times with awards throughout his career, including two Peabody Awards. King was predeceased by his wife, Annette Kaye. He is survived by his sons Andy, Chaia, and Larry Jr., as well as two stepchildren.
