Legendary jazz musician Louis Armstrong died on July 6th, 1971, at 69 years old. Born in New Orleans on August 4th, 1901, Armstrong is regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, and one of the key figures of jazz music. He was famous for his virtuosic trumpet performances and distinctive gravelly voice. He has left an unforgettable impact on musical history, from the introduction of jazz to global audiences to his individual improvisation style that would totally transform jazz performance. Armstrong performed with some of the biggest names in music, including his All Stars band which included musician Trummy Young and saxophonist Barney Bigard. He won several Grammys throughout his career and was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1972. In addition, Armstrong was also the first musician to ever receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Armstrong's powerful performances and impact on jazz music will continue to live on in the hearts of the countless people he inspired and touched. He will be dearly missed.
